4 Ways To Be A Better Leader in 2022

At Spotlight, we prioritize the development of our employees so they can not only make an impact in their day-to-day roles, but also the communities they are a part of. This year, we welcomed Mike Allison, Head of Talent and Culture, to the Spotlight family. Mike has an extensive background in leadership development and is an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Part of Mike’s work includes holding workshops for Spotlight employees to further their leadership skills and one-on-one coaching for experienced leaders. With Mike’s help, we wanted to share four key leadership tips to keep in mind as we kick off 2022.

Leadership Tips For A Bright New Year

  • Servant Leadership. Leadership is a gift given to us by those we serve. In an era where anxiety and stress often overwhelm employees, it is imperative for leaders to focus on supporting the mental, physical and spiritual well being of their direct reports. This may involve going the extra mile to balance workloads, supporting wellness efforts, and/or giving additional time and energy to those who are struggling.
  • Transparency. Employees need clear and consistent two-way communication in order to navigate potential rough waters. Leaders who openly and honestly communicate across the organization enhance trust, alignment, innovation and engagement.
  • Flexibility. Organizations that continue to move forward in the face of unpredictable business landscapes do so through nimble leadership. These leaders skillfully manage current trends while maintaining a consistent focus on future opportunities. In doing so, they continuously establish and execute strategies that preserve organizational relevancy and success.
  • Promoting Work/Life Harmony. The “Great Resignation” continues to occur as more and more professionals struggle to find balance in their lives. During the pandemic era, “work” and “life” have integrated into each other more than at any other time in recent history. Leaders who actively promote and practice work/life harmony see greater employee engagement, satisfaction levels and productivity.

For many of us, the new year marks an opportunity to sit down and define new personal and professional goals to achieve. Spotlighters are excited to continue the work with our clients and further the development of our leadership skills.

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season! See you in 2022!
