Upcoming Changes to Gartner Peer Insights in 2025: What Vendors Need to Know

Update: March 7, 2025 – Following the announcement of the updated Voice of the Customer methodology on March 3rd, 2025, Gartner released more detailed information outlining the changes. As we expected, Gartner has introduced the new metric “Review and Consideration Score” to replace the existing “Review Count” in the User Interest and Adoption (X-axis).

  • This metric is a combined calculation of the total number of eligible reviews and the number of considerations a vendor received, derived from the question “Which other vendors did you consider in your evaluation?”
  • The “Review and Consideration Score” aims to provide a more holistic representation of User Interest and Adoption, moving beyond simple review counts to capture which vendors are commanding attention in the competitive landscape.

Outside of that, no other major changes were noted. Stay tuned throughout the year for future announcements from Gartner, particularly around their planned midyear updates in July.

On January 22, Gartner Peer Insights (GPI) reflected on its 2024 accomplishments and outlined its vision for 2025. Key announcements from the annual webinar included several 2025 roadmap updates, notably:

  • Methodology changes to emphasize review diversity over volume
  • Continued improvements to GPI End-User experiences
  • More vendor self-serve sourcing at End-User events

Below are more details on these planned changes, and a recap of GPI’s growth in 2024.

Gartner informed vendors of its intent to revise the existing methodology for Voice of the Customer (VOC) reports, aiming to reduce the emphasis on sheer review volume. Currently, vendors who flood the site with a high volume of customer reviews may have a disproportionate advantage, as these volumes significantly influence GPI’s x-axis criteria, which majorly impacts  Customers’ Choice designations. The previous methodology did not adequately differentiate between vendors with concentrated reviews and those with a broader customer base. For example, a vendor with 100 reviews, 90 from the Manufacturing industry, received similar consideration to a vendor with 100 reviews spanning multiple industries.

Starting in June 2025, Gartner intends to change things up with a new VOC methodology that:

  • Elevates the importance of diverse reviews
    • Soon, market coverage – such as how many reviews a vendor has across different regions, industries, and company sizes – will be even more important.
    • Because these three market coverage criteria are already part of determining Customers’ Choice vendors, they will become more heavily weighted moving forward.
    • Implementing this new methodology allows Gartner to more effectively distinguish the true market leaders.
  • Introduces new criteria for highly-considered vendors
    • Today, the VOC reports and Customers’ Choice methodology does not factor which other vendors a reviewer considered when making the buying decision.
    • Starting in June, GPI plans to include a new score that factors this point: “What other vendors did you consider in your evaluation?”
    • This means vendors who are good at sourcing reviews, but aren’t often shortlisted by buyers, will be at a disadvantage moving forward.
    • Vendors who are considered a lot – but who may not have effective sourcing efforts – may see a boost with this change.

Gartner’s goal is to increase the representation of vendors who are often considered in the buying decision process and to not reward vendors who are purely driving customers to provide Peer Insights reviews.

Spotlight recommends to its clients that they monitor details of these coming changes planned in June to remain relevant and competitive for Gartner Peer Insights consideration.

In response to vendor feedback, Gartner has recently implemented a series of enhancements to the public site experiences, which are listed below. First, let’s highlight what’s coming next:

  • Upcoming additions to Market Pages –  New changes are planned in 2025 for:
    • Market eligibility details
    • ‘Highest Rated’ product views for select categories
    • Market trends

Gartner also highlighted recent End-User experiences it rolled out last year, including:

  • Review Generation improvements – Gartner has made it easier for users to provide reviews:
    • GPI has simplified the product selection process, making it easier for reviewers to provide more specific and accurate feedback.
    • Gartner implemented an autosave function, enabling users to save a review in progress and complete it at their convenience.
    • GPI also improved its mobile device functionality for greater accessibility for reviewers. This is particularly useful at Event Sourcing, where reviewers “on-the-go” can be tapped for reviews.
  • Modified Market Pages
    • Last year, Gartner made several changes to market pages to help users find information faster.
    • Gartner rolled out improved filtering, streamlined page structures (i.e., less redundant search results), easier navigation, and reduced page load times.

Gartner highlighted that vendor feedback led to several changes, with ongoing enhancements likely in 2025. This is a continuation of existing initiatives from Gartner, as simplifying the on-site event sourcing process better allows vendors to execute their sourcing goals.

In October 2024, GPI launched new capabilities in the Gartner Event Sourcing Portal. Now vendors are empowered to maximize customer review opportunities at end-user events, by:

  • Submitting requests to assist with planning before events
  • Customizing landing pages
  • Creating event-specific sourcing links
  • Accessing & tracking event-sourcing analytics

Gartner reported strong vendor engagement in Q4 2024, with over 80 events created by 50 vendors, resulting in more than 5,700 reviews submitted via event sourcing.

Spotlight’s Take: Spotlight advises vendors to sign up for Gartner’s Peer Insights Updates email thread, which can be done by navigating to one’s Peer Insights Profile, clicking Profile Details, then Email Preferences, as this will keep vendors informed on any anticipated event-sourcing enhancements in 2025.

Gartner continues to invest in making Gartner Peer Insights a more complete review site and has seen consistent growth for the platform in the past year. Datapoints from 2024 include:

  • 1,200,000+ average monthly sessions (+20% YoY)
  • 700,000+ verified reviews (+20% YoY)
  • 26,000+ vendor products and services (+15% YoY)
  • 15,600+ listed vendors (+18% YoY)

Gartner also saw growth in its GPI market categories covered, up 26% YoY. The number of Voice of the Customer reports published also increased 42% YoY, with readership of these reports up 24% YoY.

Gartner Peer Insights is constantly evolving, introducing new features designed to enhance your market presence. At Spotlight, we are committed to helping clients harness these updates, maximizing the power of customer feedback to drive success within your business.
